Underwater Zombies

By lesliejune April 6, 2013 Underwater, News, Models & Landscapes

My models and I got together for this underwater fashion photography shoot with a twist!

As a dedicated comic book lover (and subsequent shut-in), I wanted to create something specifically tailored to local comic haven “A Comic Shop” and their audience. After weeks of thought... a ‘glurrrghh’ came to mind - Underwater Zombies! Whether it be my anticipation for the next Walking Dead chapter release, or the pop-culture giggles that come along with movies such as Fido, I decided on Zombies as a primary target to open up my work to the crowd of people I’ve enjoyed spending time with this year!

Some of these images are grotesque and actually frightening, but for the most part they really cracked me up during the editing stages. I worked on all of them in one sitting, over the span of three days. I was hooked, and in a sluggishly-awesome stupor.

My featured model is the founder of Nerd Yoga, an initiative to merge fandom with exercise. Her yoga sequences range from My Little Pony Yoga, to Water-Bending Yoga, and even White Mage and Sailor Moon Yoga! We had the honor of working with Emi, a talented make-up-artist, who did a full-body paintjob on Lacy.

Lacy all dolled up!

We had a mess waiting for us after some storms. I pushed this out of the water with Emi's help.

It took 3.5 hours for MUA Emi and I to paint Lacy as a zombie. We splattered blood outside and small groups of people approached us and watched, asking questions and even following us to the pool as we set-up. One person thought Lacy wasn’t even real, a mannequin. Our second model was the marvelous Orlando cosplay queen, Joanie Mars, who posed as Ariel - mermaid tail and all!

Prepping Lacy a few final times before she touched water.

Lots of details, bloody bloody details!

What a trooper, right? That paint was on her all day! /:

The fantastic Joanie Mars after her swim. Her red hair is brilliant.

Here's the first image! It was a hard choice which image to display first.

"Limbs and All"

Thanks for reading, hope you enjoy the new series!
