Toni Frissell, Underwater Photography from the 1940s

By lesliejune September 21, 2011 Artist Feature

I  wanted to feature these phenomenal pictures from the 1940s by Toni Frissell. She took these photos of models within a tank and it is really inspiring and beautiful. I have yet to do underwater in black and white, but Frissell did it superbly. These underwater images were taken in Florida.

Weeki Wachee Springs has a dolphin tank where women would dress as mermaids for a show.

Beautiful! Taken in 1947.

The mermaids at work.

Frissell also shot fashion photography, portraits of children and celebrities, and WWII images as well. I love Toni Frissell's work and it is inspiring to see these shots from the 40s that are so magnificent.

 xoo, Take care!
