Bunnies in Fairyland
December 22, 2012 Animals
The rabbits I live with are pretty special. It took a lot of nurturing, love, carrots, and trust to encourage these little guys to snuggle with humans and play with us outside. They've turned into vivacious zen hairballs, and I'm grateful to them for sharing their love so courageously.
I hope to grow this album, Bunnies in Fairyland, as Estéban (American Fuzzy Lop) and Grey (Netherland Dwarf) grow more and more comfortable exploring the natural world with us.
Enjoy a few Fairyland images, and read some bunny facts!
A Midsummer Night's Nom
A few bunny facts:
- Rabbits are trainable: they can use a litterbox like a cat, come when they're called by name,
beg for treats, and jump over obstacles in competitions (which still seems so absurd to me!) - Rabbits are affectionate. Mine will lick you and make little noises for attention
- Since you can house-train rabbits, you can let them roam the house freely (given that everything is "bunny-proof")
- Rabbit poop makes for rich compost
- Rabbits love Timothy Hay and for some reason, bananas
- As prey animals, rabbits do not react to people the way cats or dogs do, and they have their own odd ways of playing with humans
